A little about me
I’m 31 and married to my Partner in Crime, Tech Support and Chief Taste Tester Adam, and our little cavoodle Chewy. We live in Brisbane, which is the third most populated city in Australia but unless you’re an Aussie you probably haven’t heard of it 🙂
It’s almost always sunny here, and we’re an hour’s drive from amazing beaches. Not to mention we *actually* have kangaroos that regularly hop by us on our morning walks around the neighbourhood.
We love to travel and are diligently working on completing our (current) bucket list. Our favourite city in the world is New York and our next destination is South America!
Most days you’ll find me making a mess in the kitchen, listening to a podcast and playing around with my camera (I have a Canon 7D).
Some more about me…
- I prefer savoury over sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I can always be tempted by chocolate. But the cheese platter is my ultimate weakness.
- I’m obsessed with true crime. Not in a creepy weird way. In a “YES I’ll watch that latest Netflix documentary the second it’s released” way.
- I’m a passionate bargain hunter. Seriously - I got my wedding dress for $200!
- I don’t know how I’d live without podcasts. My must-listens are My Favourite Murder and Armchair Expert.
- I always have a book on the go. I especially love personal development (my favourite is Brene Brown), thrillers and celebrity biographies.
A little about my food journey
When I was in my early twenties, I had absolutely no idea how to cook. Googling “how to boil water” no idea how to cook. OK maybe not that bad, but close.
For years I subsisted on takeout, Ol Del Paso Fajita Kits (just add chicken) and ramen noodles mixed with tinned tomatoes (disgusting).
But eventually this wore thin, and I started to genuinely fear I’d get scurvy if I didn’t eat some real food soon. And so, my cooking journey began.
With the help of the Food Network (What Would Ina Do?) and countless numbers of Food Blogs, I slowly started to conquer the kitchen.
Soon my ineptitude in the kitchen transformed into a full-blown love affair for all things cooking and I found the confidence to start winging it. My family and friends were thoroughly surprised, and more than happy to become taste testers as I began chronicling delicious recipe after delicious recipe.
For the sake of condensing the story, this journey sounds like an overnight success, but really, it was years of practice, patience and countless kitchen disasters.
I started my first blog, Be Forever Healthier, when my interest in cooking morphed into a passion for cooking wholesome and nourishing food for myself and my husband.
But after two years I realised that this was no longer the right fit for me. Be Forever Healthier wasn’t allowing me to showcase my personality, or my true food philosophy, which is all things in moderation, including moderation.
What’s one person’s healthy isn’t another’s, and I found myself constantly feeling as though I had to justify what I was eating and why.
I still love cooking nourishing and healthy foods that taste delicious, but that’s not the only things I love to cook. And I realised I couldn’t share my entire passion for cooking without introducing a range of foods, not just the latest superfoods.
A little about the blog
Cook It Real Good is a food blog that focuses on quick, easy and healthy recipes, with a bit of indulgence mixed in for good measure.
The recipes you’ll find here are fresh, fast and flavourful. I cook with everyday ingredients and try to use as little dishes as possible as I HATE washing up.
You’ll find a bit of everything here, as that’s the way I like to cook. I’m influenced by many different cuisines, and you’ll find lots of recipes that are suitable for those with allergies or following certain diets.
If you’re looking for something in particular, check out the categories page – quick and easy, air fryer and banana recipes are heavily visited.
Every recipe is tested at least twice, but more often more, to ensure you can recreate it perfectly at home. I take the time to add tips and tricks to my recipes to help you along, but if you ever have any questions, drop me a comment and I’ll be happy to help.
I also love hearing your recipe suggestions, so never hesitate to drop me a line. I’ll make it happen 🙂
