Air fryer frozen corn dogs are the perfect way to bring the flavor of the fair to the comfort of your kitchen.
Perfect for an after-school snack or a quick and easy dinner for a lazy night in, cooking frozen corn dogs in the air fryer is the best way to keep them crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside.
I remember the days I'd come home from school, and all I would be craving was a corndog, so I'd pop it in the microwave and chow down. Back in those days, air fryers weren't available in the way they are today.
So, your only option for making the perfectly crispy corn dog was the oven, the classic toaster oven, or fried corn dogs.
With an air fryer, it only takes a few steps to achieve a corn dog that's perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
What is a Corn Dog?
For those who have never had the pleasure of eating a corn dog, you're certainly missing out. First introduced in the 20th century, there is much debate about who first popularized this classic street food.
However, most agree that the original corn dog made its way to American cuisine in the late 1930's.
Corn dogs are hot dogs or sausages dipped in cornbread or a pancake-like batter and typically come on a stick for safe and easy handling.
They offer the ideal balance of salty, sweet, and savory, making them a great treat to satisfy whatever you’re craving.
I'm New to Air Frying - How Does it Work?
The air fryer emerged as a popular and healthy way to cook food without the extra oil required for deep frying. It achieves the same crispiness on the outside and tenderness on the inside without all the heavy grease.
Put, air fryers are small convection ovens that circulate hot air in a small chamber containing your food. This allows for crispy and evenly cooked foods.
Why You'll Love cooking corn dogs in the air fryer
- Quick and convenient.
- One budget-friendly frozen ingredient.
- Sweet and salty flavor with a crispy exterior.
Should I Thaw My Frozen Corn Dogs First?
What makes air fryer corn dogs so convenient is that they can be cooked as soon as you pull them from the freezer, meaning you don't have to wait and thaw your frozen corn dogs.
Simply remove it from its packaging and place the frozen corn dogs in the air fryer basket.
How Can I Store My Leftover Corn Dogs?
In the freezer: Any cooked corn dogs are better kept in the refrigerator, so it's not recommended you re-freeze them.
On the other hand, uncooked corn dogs can last up to 270 days in their original packaging or in an airtight container in the freezer.
In the refrigerator: Like most leftover food, corn dogs that have been cooked can be stored in your refrigerator for around three to four days. After that, consider cooking up a new batch if you crave more.
Ingredients
The ingredients are pretty straightforward. You can choose your favorite corn dog brand such as Morning Star, Foster Farms, Kroger, Costco, or whatever store brand you like.
After you select your corn dog brand, you have various condiments and sauces to pair your corn dog with.
Bang Bang Sauce and Spicy Mayonnaise are great toppings for your corn dog. Or, if you're in the mood for hot sauce, you can't go wrong dipping yours in Sriracha Aioli sauce, but feel free to use whatever you like.
how to cook frozen corn dogs in the air fryer
Cooking frozen corn dogs in the air fryer is quick & easy and only requires little to no prep time. Here are the steps to cooking the perfect corn dogs in the air fryer:
Lightly spray the Air Fryer basket with cooking spray.
Place your frozen corn dogs in the basket and spread them evenly in one layer.
Next, set your air fryer to 375 F° (190 C°) and cook for about 8-10 minutes.
About halfway through the cooking time, flip the corn dogs using tongs. This ensures even cooking and crispiness level.
If you have mini corn dogs, try cooking them for around 6 - 7 minutes to start and continue to check on them until they've reached your desired level of crispiness.
Add one or two more minutes to the cooking time for even crispier air fryer corn dogs. Once your air fryer's cooking time goes off, remove the corn dogs from the basket, pair them with your favorite dipping sauce, and dig in!
Tips for Making the Best Air Fryer Corn Dogs
- Preheating your air fryer may reduce cooking time: This recipe accounts for cooking time when the air fryer is not preheated. You should also note that if you cook a few batches in a row, the additional batches may cook faster due to the excess heat in the air fryer. For this reason, be sure to check on them regularly.
- Flip or shake corn dogs as needed: To ensure even cooking and crispiness, flip them at least once as they cook, usually around halfway through the cooking time.
- Do not over-crowd: More importantly, don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; make sure there is enough space for your corn dogs to cook side by side. This ensures an evenly cooked air fryer corn dog.
- Watch out: The corn dogs & the sticks will be hot when you take them out, give them at least 1 minute before you handle them.
FAQ
Most air fryers are non-stick, spray a light layer of olive oil or something similar for those that aren't. In my experience, spraying the oil makes the corn dogs crispier.
To get the crispy exterior and perfectly cooked on the inside, cook the corn dogs for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 F° (190 C°)
Try cooking them for around 6 - 7 minutes to start and continue to check on them until they've reached your desired level of crispiness
Smaller air fryers can cook up to 2 corn dogs at once, while larger air fryers can cook around four.
