The third edition of my What’s Happening series, where you get a sneak peek into what I’ve been up too and what I’m loving when it comes to all things food, natural beauty and more!
Ok how is it May already? Seriously! Did anyone set New Year’s Resolutions at the start of the year? How are they going? Adam and I discussed them over margarita’s and then promptly forgot them! They were probably half baked anyway! And no, I’m not talking about the delicious Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream flavour!
I find I prefer to set a mixture of short and long term goals and regularly assess them rather than make one bold statement on December 31st and be disappointed when I proceed to break it the very next morning. And since I have this blog, which is all about health, I thought I’d share some of these goals with you all through my series, Cassie’s Challenges. I’ve really enjoyed creating and completing the challenges so far and would love to hear if you guys are enjoying them too! I’m also open to suggestions for future challenges so hit me with your best shot!
Outside the weekly challenges, April was hectic and filled with food, family and friends, in that order. I have a large, close family who all like hanging out with each other (weird, I know) so we had plenty of catch ups over some not so healthy food. And it was wonderful!
Adam and I also fit in a quick trip to Melbourne, which was supposed to involve seeing comedian Chris D’elia but he cancelled his show! Instead, the trip involved working, working and more working. That’s the perks of this blogging business! You can set up shop anywhere, including the desk of your hotel room!
I feel like I’ve found more of a groove with my blogging throughout the past month, if that isn’t too daggy to say. Except for Thursday last week when I could not get motivated and spent most of the day singing to terrible music in my pyjamas. That’s ok too. But for the most part I feel like I am building a good routine and best of all, I’m enjoying every minute of it! And let’s not forget that I’m posting my monthly What’s Happening post on the first day of the month!!! If that isn’t progress, I don’t know what is 🙂
Lately I’ve been…
Minestrone Soup – I made this soup on a whim and have eaten it at least twice a week for the past month. So delicious!
No Bake Chocolate Fudge Energy Bites – I can’t stop eating them. And I won’t stop eating them. But it does mean I make a batch every other day!
JASON Powersmile Whitening Toothpaste Powerful Peppermint – I’ve been on the fluoride-free toothpaste game for about a year now and can happily report that my dentist has found no cavities or problems whatsoever! The biggest difference with natural toothpaste is that it doesn’t foam up like other toothpastes. This isn’t a bad thing, just something to be mindful of if you are expecting that to happen! I’ve tried a few different brands and this one by JASON is great. Not an overpowering peppermint flavour and leaves my teeth feeling nice and clean. I wouldn’t say my teeth a whiter but then again, I haven’t found this from any toothpaste ever!
Watching on TV –
VEEP – Julia Louis-Dreyfus is amazing and her performance in VEEP is no exception. Word of warning – the profanities are endless so skip it if that’s not your cup of tea. If you’re down with swearing like a sailor and you haven’t watched this yet, welcome to your new favourite show 🙂
Shots Fired – Anyone else getting into this? I’m trying hard and thought it had a great premise but it’s falling kind of flat. In fact, I’m pretty sure I fell asleep in almost every episode so far. Oops.
Watching at the Movies –
Get Out – There has been so much hype around this movie that I wonder if that’s why I was disappointed after watching it. The storyline was out there and whilst the acting was good, it all just seemed a little far-fetched and odd to me. Has anyone else seen it yet? What are your thoughts?
The Fate of the Furious – This franchise is down to a fine art of predictability but that’s why we love it, right? If you’ve seen the others and enjoyed them, then this is worth a watch.
Listening to –
Australian True Crime Podcast – Australia has some very interesting true crime cases and this podcast delves into a new one every week. I’ll leave a disclaimer here that I cried several times in different episodes, so keep the tissues handy.
Accused Podcast – Are you picking up a recurring theme here? It’s that I am a Murderino (for all the “My Favourite Murder” fans out there!) and I love true crime stories. Accused is about the unsolved murder of Elizabeth Andes in her Ohio apartment in 1978, and I really enjoyed how they put the series together and explored all the facts and possible scenarios. Unfortunately, at this point Elizabeth’s murder remains unsolved, but I hope that this podcast helps bring forward some new information that can help close the case.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#@k by Mark Manson – I’m a sucker for a self-help book but this one is almost an anti-self-help book if there is such a thing! Don’t let the apathetic title fool you – the book isn’t about not caring at all, but rather being more careful about what you put your energy into. I’m about half way through right now and I’ve really enjoyed it. Sometimes you need some tough talk and this book brings it!
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert – I just bought this yesterday and am really looking forward to reading it. Any fellow Elizabeth Gilbert fans out there who’ve read it already?
What’s Coming Up on the Blog –
Banana Bread Steel Cut Oats
Chicken Fajita Lettuce Cups
Sweet Potato Nachos
HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY MAY EVERYONE!
