Say hello to your newest snack addiction – baked pita chips. We almost always have a pack of pita bread on hand for easy wraps (hello Greek Chicken Gyros) and making pita chips is a great way to use up any leftovers.
Pita chips are incredibly easy to make, and once you try them I’m sure you’ll be making them again and again.

Baked Pita Chips Ingredients List
Are you ready for this? When I told you these pita chips were easy to make I wasn’t joking. Here’s all you need (full measurements below)…
- Pita Bread
- Olive Oil
- Salt
Optional Spices:
Take your pita chips further by playing around with different spices. Try sprinkling 1/2 a teaspoon of one of these spices (or use your favourite) on top of your pita chips before baking.
- Garlic Powder
- Oregano
- Za’atar
- Garam Masala
How to make Pita Chips – Step by Step
- Preheat the oven to 190C / 375F. Place baking paper or silicone mat on baking trays.
- Brush one side of the pita bread with olive oil, then turn over and brush the other side. Sprinkle with salt. Cut pitas into 8 triangles.
- Arrange pita chips on baking trays in a single layer (do not overlap) and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crisp. Keep a close eye – they crisp up quickly!
- Let the chips cool completely before serving. Then serve your favourite dip or store in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve.
TIP – Don’t skip letting the chips cool completely. As they cool, they get crispier, giving you the best crispy pita chips!
Storing Pita Chips
Pita chips can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days. They will remain crisp during this time.

Pita chips are made for dipping, so you’re going to want to serve it with a delicious dip! My favourite is my quick and easy guacamole. - 2 Large Pita Bread, White or Wholegrain / Wholewheat
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- Salt, to taste
Optional Spice Toppings (1/2 tsp of one)
- Oregano
- Za'atar
- Garlic Powder
- Garam Marsala
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190C / 375F. Place baking paper or silicone mat on baking trays.
- Brush one side of the pita bread with olive oil, then turn over and brush the other side. Sprinkle with salt (and if you want to try adding a spice, do so here). Cut pitas into 8 triangles.
- Arrange pita chips on baking trays in a single layer (do not overlap) and bake for 10 minutes or until golden and crisp.
- Let the chips cool completely before serving. Then serve your favourite dip or store in an airtight container until you're ready to serve.
Notes
PITA BREAD
- Feel free to use white or wholegrain / wholemeal.
- Either pocket or pocketless pita work.
OPTIONAL SPICE
- If you want to try a spice, simply sprinkle 1/2 a tsp on top of pita chips before baking. This isn't necessary though, and I find the plain pita chips are best if you are serving with a particularly flavourful dip!
COOLING
- Allow your pita chips to cool completely before serving. They continue to crisp up as they cool.
STORING
- Once cooled completely, store pita chips in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
