This is the post where I spill the beans about everything that’s been happening in my world for the past month. If you’ve ever been curious about what I do other than cooking – here’s your chance to find out.
My favourite time waster right now is looking on Facebook Marketplace at all the random rubbish people are selling. Yesterday I found someone “giving away” the plastic containers herbs come in from the grocery store. What the heck would one do with that?
I’ve also seen people selling coffee jars, which is totally strange. I’m pretty sure someone would try and sell a half eaten apple on there if they could. Have you seen anything totally weird on there lately?
THE SECRET’S OUT
In last month’s post I alluded to a “secret project” that I’ve been working on and I can finally spill the beans. I’m launching a podcast!
The Cook It Real Good Podcast is all about shortcuts to success in the kitchen. Each week I will bring you timeless tips, helpful hacks and rocking recipes that will help you not only cook better but also more efficiently.⠀
I’ve been interviewing some of the very best food bloggers & experts out there to give you the inside scoop.⠀
This morning I did the big scary thing of submitting my first episode to all the podcast directories (Apple, Stitcher etc etc).⠀
They don’t give you a definitive date on when it will be available while it’s up for review 🙄 so I’ll have to say watch this space and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s up! ⠀
Our Chewy boy had his first proper haircut a few week’s ago. He looks like his mum cut his fringe badly in the 80’s and I LOVE IT!
He finally got the all clear from his vaccinations on Friday and we have been able to let him out into the real world! He absolutely LOVES walks and greets every stranger like a long lost friend. He does, however, feels personally victimised if someone doesn’t stop and pat him.
At home he also demands lots of attention and does not appreciate it if food is being prepared without sampling a bite (his favourites are broccoli and banana).
I’ve come to discover that he is the WORST photography assistant ever. He spends the whole time trying to grab bites of the food I’m photographing or barking at the injustice of me not letting him have a bite.
I battled it out for two week’s before I finally relented and got another box to make it taller. He now chooses to spend his time shooting me daggers which I snap away.
IN THE KITCHEN
This past month was appropriately named “Carb-a-Palozza” by my friend Sarah from Sustainable Cooks. I’ve been working on a series of recipes that all use 2 ingredient dough (greek yoghurt + flour) and I’ve been eating scrolls, flatbreads, rolls and pizzas for weeks!
It’s been delicious and I’m SO excited to get these recipes out there but I must admit that after eating two carb-loaded recipes a day for a week I was pretty glad to be finished testing and shooting.
When I wasn’t making dough, I baking with bananas. We’ve had a tonne of spotty bananas of late and I will never let one go to waste. I’ve been loving this Easy Banana Cake and these Mini Banana Muffins. I’ve made both at least 3 times in July with intentions to freeze some for later but that never happens.
Oh and let’s not forget the Halloumi Fries… I selflessly tested those about 3 times just to make sure they were right. Nothing in it for me 😛
I think I’ll need to spend August just cooking and eating vegetables….
We are addicted to The Loudest Voice right now. It is true that as an Australian you are bound by law to watch anything Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts are in (and Hugh Jackman for that matter but he isn’t in this).
Good old Russ does an amazing portrayal of creepy old Roger Ailes and I spend the whole time muttering under my breath and feeling extremely nauseated.
I just finished reading Essentialism by Greg McKeown and didn’t realise how much I needed it’s message! I feel like I’ve been trying to get too many tasks done at once lately without doing any one of them particularly well.
The book explains how to narrow down your focus on doing less to get further. Letting go and saying no can be hard at first, but ultimately focusing on what your priorities and goals are and where you want to be will help you remove the time wasters.
A great read if you feel like you’re being busy but not productive.
That’s it for this month! What’s been happening with you?
