I’ve partnered with Wendy Hodge from Wendy’s Way to Health to help bridge the gap and start a conversation about ageism. The Bridging the Gap program aims to let go of the labels that have divided us and work to support each other to be stronger together.
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about blogging is that it gives me the opportunity to meet wonderful and inspirational people I may not have otherwise had the opportunity too! From day one, I wanted to use my blog to inspire my readers to live their healthiest lives but I also wanted to use it for a platform to support others in my industry and to be a cheerleader for the amazing women I’ve met along the way. One of those amazing women is Wendy Hodge from Wendy’s Way to Health. You may remember meeting Wendy briefly in my very first interview series on My Go-To Healthy Meal.
Since collaborating for this post, I have gotten to know Wendy very well and we recently partnered again to participate in an exciting campaign called Bridging the Gap. “Bridging the Gap” is all about Millennials and Midlife Influencers coming together and supporting each other. It aims to put an end to labels and divisions that divide us as age is simply a number, and really, it’s your attitude and way of looking at life that truly matters.
Now let me introduce you to Wendy…
Wendy was born in England and emigrated to Australia with her family when she was 18 months old. She grew up in Geelong, a town outside of Melbourne, and couldn’t wait to finish school so she could move to Melbourne and embrace the city life. It was while living in Melbourne that Wendy decided to follow her passion for fashion, and moved back home briefly to complete a fashion degree. Once completed, Wendy moved back to Melbourne and spent several years working for big fashion wholesalers.
After being made redundant from her fashion job, Wendy moved to Brisbane and pursued her other passion – fitness! She realised she could turn her love of fitness into a career and started teaching group fitness classes. This also led her to the opportunity of a lifetime to get to work in a resort on Dunk Island. Here, Wendy met her now husband Jayson.
Soon after getting married, Wendy and Jayson moved to England, which was Wendy’s long term dream. They spent the next several years working in and managing pubs, with short stints back home in Australia in between. They eventually moved back to Australia for good in 2009, and Wendy pursued her passion for health further by joining Jenny Craig as a consultant. Here she was able to help women achieve their health goals and lose weight. She was also inspired to start her blog, Wendy’s Way to Health. Soon Wendy got the courage to go out on her own, and she’s been fostering her own business full-time ever since.
Wendy offers programs that guide you through implementing healthy changes, from setting realistic goals, to portion control, tracking your progress, simple motivations techniques that work, and much more. Wendy has a host of satisfied clients and runs a regular free “5-day brekkie challenge” for those who want a start and to see if the program is right for them.
From our very first video chat, I realised Wendy and I had much more in common than what we initially thought. Our views on health and fitness are very similar, and we are both passionate about helping others improve their lives through good health. We also share a fear of Facebook Live (LOL) but we are both working on that!
I’m a big fan of Wendy’s work, and I really enjoy following her on Facebook and Instagram, where she regularly shares helpful, no-nonsense tips and yummy recipes (her 3 ingredient raw chocolates have my name all over them). I think it’s natural for us to gravitate towards those in our own age group but there is something to be said from getting to know and learning from others who may be well outside that (be it younger or older). I’ve really enjoyed being part of the “Bridging the Gap” campaign and getting to know Wendy better. Since joining the campaign, I’ve found a community of extremely talented and supportive women who are all achieving wonderful things in their pursuits. I feel privileged to have been a part of such a worthy campaign and I hope it’s message continues to spread long after the campaign ends.
